Quick Notes

Summer Help

D.E.S.K. is looking for groups to help on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons during the summer from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Four to ten people are needed at these times to unload the van, to stock shelves, to finish preparing meals, and to work on special projects. A "group" could consist of you and a few friends, but c ome on over even if you’re volunteering alone. If you can help in any way, D.E.S.K. needs you! Email Jeanne with questions.

Visit D.E.S.K.

Are you interested in seeing what goes on at D.E.S.K.? Stop by 311 Temple Street on the second or fourth Thursday of any month around 5:45 p.m! There you can grab an apron and help out or just visit with the guests. Volunteer groups are already scheduled at these times, but we here at D.E.S.K. like people to see where our main operations are.

Thanks & Recognition

Youth with a Mission

Thanks to Youth with Mission [http://www.ywam.org/] for helping at D.E.S.K.'s pantry throughout the year. They spent many days hauling, stocking, and bagging food. Thanks so much!

Foote School

D.E.S.K. would like to thank the students of the Foote School [http://www.footeschool.org/] who help every Wednesday night at the evening meal at United Church.  The students do everything from set-up and serving to cleanup , and for many, many years, t hey have never missed a single evening meal during the academic year! Thanks to Miss Lynn Valentine and Margaret for helping to make this opportunity possible for the Foote School students.

Hunger Awareness Day

Thank you to all the folks who came by Center Church [http://www.newhavencenterchurch.org/] to donate food to the Emergency Food Council on Hunger Awareness Day, June 6th. All of the food items will go into pantry bags for the food insecure in New Haven.

Community Foundation of Greater New Haven

A special thanks to the Community Foundation of Greater New Haven [http://www.cfgnh.org/] staff who collected food donations for D.E.S.K. Connecticut Food Bank

Staff of the Connecticut Food Bank ran D.E.S.K.'s pantry and helped bag groceries on Wednesday, June 14th as part of their organization's “Day of Caring.” T he Connecticut Food Bank is D.E.S.K.'s major food supplier, and D.E.S.K. shops twice a week at the C.F.B. facility located in East Haven. Each week, hundreds of pounds of food are bought at C.F.B., transported to D.E.S.K., stocked, prepared, and served to guests. All this is made possible by the help of volunteers, guest volunteers, and D.E.S.K. staff ( Jeanne & Charles) . Thank you, C.F.B., and all of those strong volunteers who help D.E.S.K. get the food to those who need it.
